Farm-gate Coastal Bermuda squares run about $8–18/bale across Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana, with bulk cow and goat squares as low as $3. Round bales run $40–100 for horse-quality Coastal (cow-hay rounds start around $15), and trucked-in Western alfalfa or timothy costs more — roughly $16–18/bale for 2-string. 2nd cutting squares run about $6–8.50.

This is Coastal Bermuda country — Coastal, Jiggs, Tifton 85, and Bahiagrass are the warm-season staples, cut from spring through fall. Alfalfa and timothy are mostly trucked in from out West (New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Idaho), which is why those run two to three times what local Bermuda does. If you keep horses, ask whether a square is local Coastal or imported alfalfa/timothy — the price gap is mostly trucking.

A real example from this board: a $10 Coastal square at 50 lb works out to about $400/ton, while a $3 bulk cow square at 45 lb is about $133/ton — and a $90 round at 1,000 lb is just $180/ton. The sticker alone won't tell you the real cost; weigh the bale and compare cost per ton. Round-bale ads often quote a size (4×5, 4×6, 5×5) but not pounds, so ask.

Always compare delivered cost if you can't haul. Lots of sellers here deliver by the load — a Fort Worth-area Coastal round runs about $120 delivered, and some Central Texas growers deliver free on full loads of 23+. A cheap field-pickup bale an hour away can lose to a local delivered bale once you count the truck, trailer, and your Saturday — or win big if you're taking a semi load.

Warm-season grasses cut from spring through early fall here, so fresh Coastal comes off the fields in waves from about April to October — that's when supply is highest and field prices are lowest. Buy ahead of winter, when local cutting stops and prices firm up.
