What we collect, and what we never do.

Exactly what information BaleWise handles, who touches it along the way, how long we keep it, and how to get it corrected or deleted.

Effective August 28, 2026.

Section 1 Who we are.

BaleWise (balewise.com) is a public hay price board run by Hiro Holdings LLC, 82 Wendell Ave. Ste 100, Pittsfield, MA 01201, USA, a Massachusetts limited liability company. For anything in this policy (a question, a correction, a deletion), write to contact@balewise.com.

Section 2 What we collect.

  • If you just read the board: almost nothing.Standard analytics (Section 6) and the server logs every website keeps. No account needed, no email asked for. Your ♥ saved listings live in your own browser and are never uploaded.
  • If you use a form, we receive exactly what you typed, usually a name, an email or phone, a ZIP code, or a question for a seller. We use it to do the thing you asked: pass your message to that seller, build your listing, or answer you.
  • If you create a seller account: your email (it's your sign-in), your password (stored only as a cryptographic hash by our sign-in service; we can't read it), your farm or business name, an optional phone number, and the date you accepted the Terms of Service. If you sign in with Google, Google tells us your email and name; we never see your Google password.
  • Your listings: the hay details, prices, town, photos, and contact details you post. Listings are public by design. Section 4 covers what that means.
  • If you buy Promoted: your card goes to Stripe, our payment processor. Your card number never touches BaleWise. We receive and keep the transaction record: what you bought, the amount, the date, and enough to show you a receipt (card brand and last four digits).

Section 3 Where listing information also comes from.

Most listings on the board were built from things sellers had already published, a farm's own website, a current classified ad, a state hay directory. Where that public source showed contact details, those details are on the listing. If you're listed this way and want anything corrected, hidden, or removed, contact us and we'll handle it promptly.

Section 4 How we use it.

  • To run the board: show your listing, relay messages buyers send through the Ask button, and keep prices current. Ask messages are relayed to the contact address on the listing, including listings we built from public sources (Section 3). Every relay email includes our address and a way to stop further ones.
  • To email you about your own account and listings: a confirmation when you sign up, a receipt when you buy, a reset link when you ask for one, and questions we need answered to keep your listing accurate.
  • To keep the price record: BaleWise keeps a historical archive of the board: what was asked, where, and when. It's the backbone of our price statistics. The archive records listings, prices, and changes; we don't publish a statistic that names a person.
  • Publicly on your listing: whatever you chose to show, farm name, town, price, photos, phone if you added one. The board is a public website: search engines index it, and automated tools, including AI systems, read public pages.

Section 5 Who handles it along the way.

The site runs on services that necessarily process some of this data: Netlify (privacy policy) hosts the site and receives form submissions, Supabase (privacy policy) is the database and handles seller sign-in, Resend (privacy policy) delivers our email, Stripe (privacy policy) processes payments, and Google (privacy policy) provides analytics, the page fonts, and the optional "Continue with Google" sign-in. The map page loads its tiles from CARTO (privacy policy).

Each processes data to provide its service to us, under its own terms. The links above say what each one does. Two are worth knowing about: Stripe also handles payment data under its own privacy policy, for things like fraud prevention across its network, and Google operates Analytics, Fonts, and Sign-In under Google's terms. What we can promise, and do: we don't authorize any of these services to sell your information or to advertise to you on our behalf. If we add a service that touches personal information, it gets added to this list.

Section 6 Analytics, cookies, and your browser.

  • Google Analytics counts visits and shows us which features get used, which pages, filters, and listings. It's standard and cookie-based, and Google processes the data under its own terms (Section 5). We use it to see what the board is used for, not to build a picture of you, and we run no advertising pixels or ad-network trackers of our own. The site also loads its fonts from Google, which means your browser requests them from Google's servers.
  • Your browser's local storage holds your ♥ saved listings, your last-viewed region, and your sign-in session. The saves never leave your device; clearing browser data clears them.

Section 7 How long we keep things.

  • Account data: as long as your account exists. Delete your account and the account itself (sign-in, name, phone) is removed, your photos are deleted, and your listings come off the board.
  • The historical price record: kept. Prices that were public on the board stay in the board's history (the Terms explain why). A removed listing stops being displayed, and its contact details come off public view with it. To be precise: the internal record keeps what the listing showed while it was live, including contact details that were public on it. Those details are never re-published after removal, and the only thing we publish from the record is aggregate statistics that identify no one.
  • Transaction records: kept. Bookkeeping and tax law require it.
  • Correspondence: emails you send us are kept like ordinary business mail.
  • Form submissions: removed on request (Section 8).

Section 8 Your choices.

  • See and fix your own information any time from your account, listings, prices, contact details, farm name.
  • Delete your account yourself: Account → Delete account.
  • Ask us for anything else: a copy of what we hold about you, a correction, removal of a form submission, or removal of contact details that came from a public source. Contact us and we'll handle it promptly. Before releasing anyone's information, we verify the request comes from the account holder or the listed seller.
  • Analytics: standard browser tools and Google's own opt-out control what Analytics sees.

Section 9 What we never do.

  • Sell or license your contact details, or any record that identifies you or your farm, and never share your personal information for advertising purposes. The only thing we publish or license from the price record is aggregate statistics that identify no one.
  • Disclose a buyer's email address to a seller, unless the buyer chose to send that seller a message.
  • Add you to marketing lists you didn't ask for, or place unsolicited marketing calls.

Section 10 Security.

Traffic to the site is encrypted (HTTPS), passwords are stored only as hashes, card numbers never touch our systems, and access to the database is restricted. No system is perfect. If we ever learn of a breach that affects your information, we'll tell you what happened and what we're doing about it.

Section 11 Children.

BaleWise is not directed at children. Accounts require you to be 18 or older, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us immediately and we will delete it.

Section 12 When this policy changes.

When it does, the effective date at the top changes, and anything that meaningfully affects your privacy gets called out on the board and, if you have an account, emailed to your sign-in address before it takes effect, not buried here.

Contact us directly with any questions about this policy.
